Hillsborough Relay For Life

The final tally is in!!!! Drumroll PLEASE.........................

The 2008 Orange Hillsborough Relay For Life raised more than $172,000 for the American Cancer Society!

This required the efforts of many and we'd like to recognize them. First, thank you to the Relay and Kids Walk Corporate Sponsors. These businesses donated more than $25,000 and gave the Relay a flying
start.

Then there are our teams. All are winners, but some are Superstars. In the Business category the Superstar is Team Eurosport. They raised $15,347.55 and through their activities won the Extra Effort Team Award. In the School and Church categories the winners are Pathways to a Cure and Antioch Angels Against Cancer. These teams raised more than $6K and almost $9K, respectively. The Angels' efforts also capture them the Team Spirit award. Our Friends and Family Superstar is the GoGetters. They raised $14,664.46 and epitomized the Heart of Relay. That leaves the top Civic team, the Durham Firefighters for Cindy Atkins. This new group raised $5,719.34 and wins both the Rookie Team
of the Year and the Best Online Fundraising awards.

Of course, these teams are supported by incredible individuals. Bill Atkins, Kristie Mabry, MJ Rosensweet, Betty Borland and Gerri Clayton each raised over $1,000 and Brenda Cook is the top individual fundraiser with $2,990!

We also appreciate the Orange County Speedway. Not only did the Speedway provide a great venue, but they donated their time and equipment generously. Whenever we had a problem, they had a solution. The Relay's move to a new location could have been traumatic, but they made it easy.

We would like to recognize the News of Orange. They provided the Relay Corner to advertise our events and through their coverage they introduced the Relay to a wider audience. Again, our move to a new venue could have been painful, but with the News we connected with Orange County.

Finally, we would like to thank the Survivors and participants who came to the Relay! Your efforts and your friendship are what makes the difference in this fight. Thanks to you all and stay tuned next year!
